Endoscopy

Endoscopy for Dogs, Cats, and Exotic Pets

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive way for our veterinarians to look inside the body using a small, flexible camera. Because it requires only tiny incisions, or sometimes none at all, it allows us to diagnose and treat many conditions with less sedation, less discomfort, and faster recovery times.

In both small animals and exotic species, endoscopy can help us evaluate the stomach and intestines, airways, nasal passages, and even certain internal organs. It’s especially useful for retrieving swallowed objects, taking biopsies, assessing chronic digestive or respiratory issues, and performing targeted treatments without the need for major surgery.

A veterinarian at Erindale may recommend an endoscopic procedure for the following:

  • Chronic vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, or suspected gastrointestinal disease

  • Removal of swallowed foreign objects

  • Persistent sinus, airway, or lung problems

  • Biopsy of internal organs or abnormal tissue

  • Screening for stomach ulcers, masses, or structural abnormalities

  • Reproductive or cloacal exams in exotic species

  • Abdominal exploratory

  • Assessment of ear or sinus disease (especially in rabbits and other small mammals)

For many pets, endoscopy means shorter procedures, fewer complications, and a quicker return to normal activity. Erindale has recently introduced endoscopy to our practice and our team is trained to provide safe, advanced endoscopic care tailored to each patient’s needs.
